The Cove

In northern Spain where lies Asturias, the coast facing the Atlantic sometimes shows breathtaking, dramatic signs. This landscape with its contrasts of light and darkness speaks to me of the danger and, at the same time, the hope. It seems as if it reflected the humanity's struggle between light and darkness, and human heart’s perennial desire to reach a state of harmony.

孤港
2014, 73 x 60 cm

Puerto solitario

Lonely Harbor

2014, 73 x 60 cmThe villages bordering the northern coast of Taiwan offer the boats places to shelter them from the fury of the sea. They are often lonely places. The small lighthouse that stands alone, facing the great rock that backs up the harbor, recalls the heroic struggle for survival of the tiny versus the giant.

2014,                                                                                                                             73 x 60 cm

Daydreaming

A large painting that captures the grandeur of Asian landscapes.  The Halong Bay serves as the inspiration for this painting.  Based upon a figurative style that permeates into the abstract and conceptual.  The strong earthy colors, reds, and Prussian blues at the bottom of the painting come to the figurative realism in the middle, while gradually leading us into a dreamlike horizon almost suspending in the air.

2016                                                                                                                                146×97 cm

Wuling Mountain Trail

An early morning getaway to Mount Tao in Wuling Farm (at the Shei-Pa National Park).  The first rays of sunlight penetrating through the trees that line the trail, turning the place into a landscape filled with a surreal force.  This painting, with quick strokes and strong color contrasts, reflects the electrifying energy of that moment.

Costa Brava

Costa Brava

In the small coves of Costa Brava in Spain, awaits evergreen pine forests and old fishermen houses that fearlessly border the beach white sands.  A sense of calmness allows one to admire how nature and man’s work, stone and water, the house and the forest, are harmoniously combined.

Castillo de Sta. Catalina

St. Catalina’s Castle

St. Catalina’s Castle sits on a throne above the city of Jaén, Spain.  In Andalucia, the land of stark contrasts, one can both relive the past and dream about the future at the same time.  Meanwhile, one can also experience the contrasts of autumn and winter, plus the hand of man in history and the hand of God in nature.  One must come to know this land, and love it for its people and its history.

The Mt. Ali Railroad

Once upon a time, this colonial railway was built to better extract the treasures of the mountain.  However, nowadays, the railway serves to bring people to admire and appreciate the wonders of nature.  Do we also get a second chance to start over our lives and learn to love and care more for people and all creation?

2016 , 72×61cm

Childhood Memories

Miravet is a small village perched on a rock above the river in Terres del Ebre.  A place impossible to forget, given it was where I spent some moments of my childhood.  The painting reflects this village’s three prominent areas: the banks of the river, the mid-level dominated by the church, and the highest part with the old and uninhabited castle.  The village is framed between the deep waters of the river below and the airy clouds of heaven on high.  A soft color palette reflects the dryness of the land and the passing of time.

Looking at the Horizon

Among high peaks, floating in the Asian calm waters, our eyes slowly turn to the distant horizon, discovering afar, lands that are bathed completely in light.

Northern Coast Sunset

The Northern Coast of Taiwan, where the mountains, between inlets and coves, embrace the seas.  The coast offers the visitor, one of the most breathtaking landscapes of the island.  At dusk, the sun plays hide and seek among the clouds, making the cliffs ignite with own light, like the embers of a gone bonfire.

Reflejo Veneciano

Venetian Reflection

Venice, the city of thousand corners.  This painting reflects anyone of them.  Light, color, life and history, all combining anew, forming a different world in the water reflections.

Farewell at San Giorgio

This painting depicts the instant when we turned around to say the last goodbye to the place.  The last glance, trying to fix the images in our minds.  Yet, all are blurred.  No matter how hard we tried, the only thing that remained are the colors of that Venetian late afternoon.

Margaritas y gladiolos

Daisies and Gladiolus

The might of life.  Each flower, different from the next, seeking its own place, its own address, and its own home.  Strong and independent, but nevertheless, not separated or divided, they coexist in fullness and in harmony.

A new day in Venice

A new day brings us the promise of light and sun.  Along the edge of the canal, below the immense dome that ride the skies, almost hidden, is the inner garden of our lives blossoming.

2013 ,72.5×53 cm

Amalfi

Amalfi

The place where beauty has no limits.  It is where houses are so close that they appear to be stacked on top of each other, and where everybody takes the time to look out at the endless and intensely blue ocean.

Paisaje alpino

Alpine Landscape

The alpine mountains are home to picturesque lakes, where light and color are reflected in peace, upon the hidden calm waters that are protected from inclement weather.  It is no wonder why people also come to see in the reflections of these waters, a quieter and a more contemplative world.

The Other Side of the Street

At midnight, or rather, at the early morning hours, the street is deserted.  An inexplicable feeling drew me to wander around some unfamiliar corners.  The desire to know what's hidden on the other side of that corner awakens in me. Where is that light which is piercing the darkness coming from?

靜水
2010 ,45.5×65.5 cm

Aguas tranquilas

Calm Waters

Deep and dark waters between a rugged coastline of thick brush strokes.  A boat parting away from the shore, yet appears to be going no where.  It seems to be just swaying in the water and feeling the stillness of the moment.

濱海
2012 ,65.5×45.5 cm

Oceanfront

A corner, like many others of the Costa Brava, where the rocks seem to be sitting and looking out into the sea.  Warm colors, with torrid atmosphere of August air.  The chirping of crickets break the monotony of an early afternoon time, and the shadow of the tree invites us to immerse ourselves into the arms of Morpheus.

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean

There are rock formations, along the northern coast of Taiwan, that have faced challenges and weathered many storms over time.  Irregardless of their strength and permanence, their fanciful shapes are still influenced by the constant crashing of waves, wearing of the time, and of history.  Seeing these rocks in the vast ocean, always reminds me about the resilience of the Taiwanese people on this island.

2016 , 60×45 cm

Rocas flotantes

Floating Rocks

These landscapes in Southeast Asian bays... Warm waters calmly flowing around these majestic rocks.  Sometimes it seems as if the rocks are floating above the vast and winding sea.  I wonder, “Which will last longer, the smooth and warm waters or the rugged surface of the rocks?

Mallorca Almond Trees

Each spring, Mallorca, an island in the Mediterranean Sea, is dressed in white.  The almond blossoms contrasts with the vast blue sky and the soft greens of the fresh grass, which are newly awakened from mother earth.  This painting depicts the spirit that brought forth by these almonds trees as heralds of a new life.

野柳
2014 , 45×53 cm

Yeliu

Yeliu

Who has not gone lost in these landscape where these elements, the sea, the rains and the winds, have formed the earth in whimsical shapes?  Perhaps over here, a wizard had petrified these forests, trees and plants from other eras?

Callejón veneciano

Un recóndito callejón de Venecia. Casas viejas, paredes desconchadas, colores marchitos.

Venetian alley

In a hidden Venetian alley, dilapidated houses, peeling walls, faded colors.  Windows like eyes are silently observing their surroundings.  The water is an impenetrable green.  Does anyone still live there?  Is the tree the only living witness to a bustling past?

2016 , 31×41 cm

My little Flowers

These small and delicate flowers of different colors, some more colorful, others more somber, all reflecting the daily flow of our feelings.  The hard lines and cold colors of the vase that is both containing and yet elevating the flowers, represent the conditions of our existence that are sometimes hard and difficult.  Nevertheless, they collect and maintain the beauty of the whole bouquet.

Eucaliptus

Eucalyptus

Solid trees whose trunks offer a spectacle of vibrant colors and refreshing fragrances as they regenerate their barks.  Those divine lights in the background, what are they conveying?

2015 , 41×31 cm

Autumn Creek

If we go into the countryside in autumn, it is easy to have that mixed feeling of being melancholic and hopeful.  The passing of time, the homes of peasants, testimony of ancestral experiences, the sunset, the bridge that helps us cross… everything evolves in an atmosphere of nostalgia that lead us to reflect on the passing of our existence.

2013, 31×41 cm

Girasoles

Sunflowers

Sunflowers, these large flowers crowned with petals that sometimes fall on their own accord, have been the inspiration of many painters.  The yellow tone of the petals, the ocher and orange hues in the center, together with the green from the stem, in addition to their slow decline once cut, enable these flowers to express a variety of moods. This is a simple work but reflects lively pulse and emotional warmth.
